Official Disaster Relief- Help for Hurricane Katrina Survivors By Katie Spencer

During this very difficult time, many Americans will face overbearing challenges. OfficialDisasterRelief is here to provide assistance and referrals to agencies dedicated to rendering the necessary support for events like this.

Here are some tips to keep in mind in the days and weeks following the storm:

1. Ensure that you and your family are safe.

2. Contact FEMA and your local Emergency Management Agency for assistance and to initiate aid claims.

3. If you have been evacuated, please contact the local Red Cross and Emergency Management Office.

4. Call your mortgage and auto lender to notify them of your situation and seek assistance with your payments.

5. Call your insurance companies to initiate claims (home owners, renters, flood, auto, etc.)

6. If you rent, contact your landlord to discuss your rent payment.

7. Call your creditors to explain your situation and express a willingness to continue payments once you have become settled. Many of your creditors will work with you, but you must initiate the call to them.

8. Seek counseling for you and your family as events like this will have long lasting impacts that need to be addressed.

9. Contact your employer to determine work and pay schedules.

10. Contact InCharge at 1-866-729-4276 if you need further assistance or support with a financial situation.

Please remember that your first priority is the security and wellness of you and your family. We will be here to help you as you rebuild your lives.
